EISA (originally named the CLEAN Energy Act of 2007) is promoted as a way of lowering energy costs to consumers...by focusing on automobile fuel economy, development of biofuels, and energy efficiency in public buildings and lighting. The stated purpose of the act is "to move the United States toward greater energy independence and security, to increase the production of clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers, to increase the efficiency of products, buildings, and vehicles, to promote research on and deploy greenhouse gas capture and storage options, and to improve the energy performance of the Federal Government, and for other purposes."
DSIRE provides comprehensive information on state, local, utility and federal incentives and policies promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency. Established in 1995, DSIRE is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and is an ongoing project of the North Carolina Solar Center and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council. Earth911 is an environmental services company that provides end-of-life solutions for businesses and consumers. A list of local drop-off and/or recycling centers is provided when the material to be recycled, (fluorescent lamps for example), and zip code are entered.
